GSX 2022 Sees More Than 13K Registrants, Hosts 400+ Exhibitors

ATLANTA — Global Security Exchange (GSX) 2022 concluded last Wednesday at the Georgia World Congress Center.

Presented by ASIS Int’l, the world’s largest association for security management professionals, the event offered discussion and idea exchanges for the global security community.

ASIS says attendance exceeded projections, with more than 13,000 registrants from 85 countries along with more than 400 exhibitors demonstrating the latest security solutions.

“Once again, GSX has proven itself to be a catalytic force for education, networking, and sharing the latest trends and innovations happening within the security profession,” says Malcolm C. Smith, CPP, 2022 president, ASIS Int’l. “The response to GSX 2022 has been overwhelming from both attendees and exhibitors. I’m incredibly thankful to our show’s organizers, sponsors, exhibitors, and attendees for their commitment to the security profession and to making GSX the industry’s premier event. Year after year, GSX is home to best-in-class educational programming, and I am proud of the diverse and expansive conversations that occurred at this year’s event.”

GSX 2022 kicked off on Monday Sept.12 with a keynote presentation from globally-acclaimed Argentinian entrepreneur and CEO of Asteroid Technologies, Mateo Salvatto, who discussed the issue of inclusion along with the creation of Háblalo, an app that helps anyone with a communication disability communicate with others by using features like text-to-voice translation, voice-to-text translation, and more.

Following Salvatto’s keynote presentation, the event’s exhibit hall opened — showcasing more than 400 industry leaders from four continents. Exhibiting companies included ADT Commercial, Allied Universal, ASSA ABLOY, Azena, Boon Edam, Bosch Security and Safety Systems, Cognyte, Evolv Technology, Esri, Everbridge, Hanwha Techwin, NAPCO Security Technologies, OnSolve, Prosegur Security, Salient Systems, Securitas, Smiths Detection, and Trackforce Valiant. Monday also launched the start of 173 educational sessions over this three-day event.

Day two featured a keynote address by infosec expert, Jake Williams (aka, Malware Jake), whose expertise in analyzing security control designs and ensuring they’re deployed effectively tackled the issue of security testing and validating security controls. He reminded the audience that when it came to physical and cyber, you cannot separate one from the other in today’s environment. You can read more of Williams’ tips and guidance on validating security controls here.

The final day of GSX celebrated Military and Law Enforcement Appreciation Day and featured former CEO of the Center for Civil and Human Rights, Global Soap Project Founder, and CNN Hero keynote presenter, Derreck Kayongo.

In his keynote address, “A Pathway to Courageous Conversations,” Kayongo focused on the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in hiring — both in the security industry and the world at large. As a thank you to all active duty and veteran military, law enforcement, and first responders, these groups were invited to attend GSX for free this day.

GSX 2022 highlighted two Game Changer sessions with industry experts provided lively presentations on the how to build trust in your personal security brand as well as innovative approaches to thwarting cyberattacks.

Among the robust learning opportunities at GSX, the event featured a number of “speed learning” sessions, including the X Stage featuring cutting-edge solutions that actively shape the future of the security professional. The UnCrewed U Stage offered 14 short, twenty-minute sessions and product demos of the latest uncrewed aircraft platforms, counter UAS systems, and ground-based robots.

The Cybercon Stage addressed topics ranging from the convergence between physical and cybersecurity to effective ways of building public private partnerships pre- and post-crisis. While over at Career HQ, security professionals were offered resume reviews, access to the headshot studio and professional development sessions.

The ASIS Foundation, which helps security professionals achieve their career goals with certification scholarships, practical research and member hardship grants, raised in excess of $37,000 from 145 participants hailing from 17 countries on five continents through its 2022 Virtual Challenge — ending the week of GSX. Gold sponsors for this year’s Fitness Challenge were ACRE, Microsoft and The Resiliency Initiative.

GSX 2023 will take place Sept. 11-13 in Dallas. ASIS notes that advance booth space selection for GSX 2023 represents more than 90% of GSX 2022’s exhibit floor space.
