Preferred Technologies’ Guiding Principles Defined by ‘PGRIT’

In a company biographical video on Preferred Technologies’ website, viewers are presented with insights to the integrator’s portfolio of services and deep expertise in serving a range of commercial, industrial and enterprise markets.

A strong emphasis on culture and the importance that core values play in the Houston-based company’s success is also a focal point. Shaun Castillo, who serves as president, summarizes the Preferred Technologies ethos by defining the acronym, PGRIT.

“P is professional; G is grit itself; R is right; I is intelligent thought; and T is trusted advisor,” he recites in the video.

Founded in 2005, the family-owned business staffs more than 100 employees — all of whom are expected to espouse the PGRIT principles “if you want to be on the Pref-Tech bus,” Castillo conveys. He is quick to praise the company’s good fortune in staffing qualified and dedicated personal throughout the organization.

Jason Goulait, who specializes in inside sales and marketing for the integrator, tells SSI that team members are guided by an ethic of “love your neighbor as yourself” in pursuit of exceptional service to its clientele.

“So, if someone calls at 9 p.m., we gladly pick up and get back to helping them,” he adds.

Providing complete in-house support for all facets of each project is another Preferred Technologies keystone to achieving a successful outcome for every customer. “This way we can not only ensure a better price point for our customers, but also ensure that the job is executed as well as it was sold to be,” Goulait explains.

The company integrates custom security solutions for a wide range of industries including government, education, commercial facilities, healthcare, airports, seaports, oil, gas and energy. To enhance its role as a trusted advisor to clientele, Preferred Technologies hosts quarterly meetings with tier-one customers to gather feedback so the integrator can adjust accordingly and serve them better.

The ability to consistently perform at a high level and remain ahead of technological advances begins with regimented training and motivation.

Members of the sales team are assigned to complete a three-month onboarding process comprised of classroom-like lessons, real-world experience and mentorship. New in-field technicians train alongside some of the best in the business, Goulait explains. “Both our sales and operations teams are required to continue their training past three months by getting certified by our manufacturers.”

Preferred Technologies provides a $10,000 bonus, a $10,000 annual raise and reimbursement for expenses incurred while earning a qualified professional certification. These accreditations include the Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD), and several Cisco and Microsoft certifications.

Ultimately, all the skills and experience in the world remain seconardy to the driving forces that are the whole of PGRIT.

“We intentionally and deliberately build, refine and maintain our culture,” Goulait adds. “We focus our culture on our purpose statement and core values.”
