Top 10 Security Stories From April 2021: ADT’s Latest Legal Matters, Konnected Claims

One of the topics most frequently found in these monthly top story compilations is M&A. A deal or two typically makes it in each month, but alas, we are without one in April.

That’s not to say there was a lack of acquisitions. In fact, there was a handful — just nothing that tipped the scales like last month’s mammoth Allied Universal – G4S deal that saw the exchange of $5.28 billion and merger of hundreds of thousands of employees worldwide.

However, we are not without the presence of another monthly mainstay — ADT. In fact, Big Blue makes not one, but two appearances on this month’s list.

The most popular story of the two was the latest development in the peeping technician saga. In April 2020, ADT fired an employee that was accused of adding his personal email address to customers’ accounts during service visits, which gave him varying levels of access to their systems through the company’s mobile app, including the video streams of security cameras.

The tech pleaded guilty this past March, but now ADT is facing a class action lawsuit over the incident.

In other ADT news, the company is suing Ring for willful trademark infringement over its blue octagon mark.

In other smart home-related news, SSI readers were intrigued by forensic expert Jeff Zwirn’s opinion that Konnected is marketing false claims about its alarm panel that can turn any wired alarm system into a smart alarm.

Additional popular stories in April include more a company profile on SAGE Integration, cyber certification for security integrators and more. You can view all these stories in the slideshow.
