DALLAS — New research from Parks Associates’ new research reveals 48% of security system owners report that their system triggers too many false alarms. Found in the firm’s report, Quantified Consumer: Alerts and Alarms: Consumer Perceptions of Security Event Management , the research explores consumer attitudes, preferences and experiences in security event management among households with professional monitoring. “False alerts generate fines and frustrations for users,” says Chris White, senior analyst, Parks Associates. “False alerts, caused by harmless factors like children or pets, can devalue the security system in a number of ways. Users can get in the habit of ignoring or disabling triggers. Resulting fines from unnecessary runs by a city’s emergency responders, which are on average nearly $150, also add to the cost of owning the system.” Parks Associates also finds that 62% of security owners report their system triggered at least one false alarm in the past 12 months. By integrating with the Schlage NDE and LE Series, organizations can add wireless locks to doors that would have previously been cost-prohibitive due to wiring, according to the announcement. AUSTIN, Texas — Felix Media Solutions (FMS), based here, has expanded its service offerings to include security systems design and integration with the acquisition of regional security dealer Bigstar Security. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Bigstar Security, an Alarm.com authorized dealer, is also based in Austin. Owner Scott Zuniga will remain with the company to serve as the FMS director of security sales. In this week’s Top Surveillance Videos… Restaurants have had it tough the past couple years thanks to the pandemic. A robbery is the last thing they need to deal with on top of slower business, rude customers and staff and supply shortages. California restaurant Monkey King was recently the victim of a brazen armed robbery. A man walked in with a duffle bag that contained an assault riffle. Surveillance footage shows what happened next. The suspect points the gun at a customer and demands his wallet. Instead of complying, the customer grabs the gun and shoves the suspect. A shot is fired off during the struggle but fortunately did not hit anyone. He was eventually able to make the suspect leave, protecting the 10 restaurant workers inside.
